“PALACE OF GOLD & LIGHT: TREASURES FROM THE TOPKAPI, ISTANBUL”
EXHIBITION
The exhibition “Palace of Gold+Light:
Treasures from the Topkapı, Istanbul” is due to take
place between 1 March 2000- 14 January 2001 in the U.S.A.
The “Palace Arts Foundation” which was
set up under the directorship of Mr. Richard Barkley, former
U.S.A. ambassador to Ankara, had applied for this exhibition
in 1998 and preparations for this extensive exhibition.
The exhibition will take place in three
centres, namely the Corcoran Art Gallery, the San Diego
Museum of Art and Fort Lauderdale, Florida Museum of Art
and about 239 artifacts from the Istanbul Topkapı Palace
Museum the Istanbul Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum, Istanbul
Archaelogy Museums, Yıldız Palace Museum and the
Military Museum will be on display.
This exhibition which encompasses a unique
variety of examples from the Ottoman court art and culture
includes manuscripts, ceremonial robes (kaftan), gem-adorned
turbans, carpets, china, writing sets and weapons and unll
illustrate the high standard the Ottoman Sultans have reached
in daily life statesmanship and as the protectors of art
as well as their military genius.
The transportation of the artifacts urill
be completed in two parts and the “Topkapı Dagger”
which urill be exhibition urill be sent abroad with special
courrier. Habitvally our museum specialist are to accompany
the artifacts during the time they leave home and come back
and safety precavtions of all sorts unill be handled by
the U.S. authorities.
Senior officials from both countnies are
expected to be present at the opening of the exhibition
of “Palace of Gold & Light: Treasures from the Topkapı,
Istanbul”.
